The President of the Bauchi Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (BACCIMA), Hon. Aminu Muhammad Danmaliki, has urged Nigerians to disregard an unverified online report alleging that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu plans to abolish Sharia criminal law, rename Nigeria as the “United States of Nigeria,” and embark on far-reaching constitutional restructuring without national consensus.

Danmaliki, who holds the traditional title of Danmalikin Bauchi, made his position known in a statement personally signed and made available to journalists in Bauchi while reacting to the viral report circulating on social media.

The former member of the House of Representatives expressed concern over the widespread circulation of the claims, noting that many Nigerians, particularly in the North, had been unsettled by the allegations.

In the statement titled “My Position on the Viral ‘Project True Federation’ Report,” Danmaliki said he initially shared the concerns of many citizens who were alarmed by reports suggesting that the Federal Government intended to rename the country, abolish Sharia criminal law, and fundamentally alter Nigeria’s constitutional framework.

He, however, stressed the need for Nigerians to verify information before accepting or spreading it, pointing out that there is currently no credible evidence to support the claims.

“Like many concerned Nigerians, particularly in Northern Nigeria, I was initially disturbed by the viral report.

“However, it is important that we separate facts from emotions. The Presidency has reportedly denied the existence of such a proposal, and until credible evidence is presented, Nigerians should avoid drawing conclusions that may unnecessarily heighten regional, religious, or political tensions,” he stated.

Danmaliki noted that issues relating to Sharia law, federalism, religious freedom, resource control, and the structure of the Nigerian federation remain highly sensitive and require careful handling.

According to him, any constitutional reform touching on such critical matters must be preceded by extensive consultations, national dialogue, and broad-based consensus among stakeholders across the country.

He emphasized that no reform initiative could succeed if it is perceived as targeting the identity, beliefs, or interests of any section of the nation.

“At the same time, I believe that the constitutional rights and legitimate interests of all regions and faith communities must be respected and protected,” he added.

The BACCIMA president further called on Nigerians to remain calm, exercise restraint, and promote responsible communication, especially on social media platforms.

He urged citizens to verify information from credible sources before sharing it and to engage in constructive dialogue rather than inflammatory rhetoric capable of deepening divisions.

Danmaliki maintained that Nigeria’s diversity should continue to serve as a source of strength and unity, rather than a cause for conflict, stressing the need for national cohesion and mutual understanding in addressing issues of public concern.
