Fresh indications have emerged that aspirants seeking to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Bagwai/Shanono Federal Constituency have largely accepted the consensus arrangement brokered by the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, with only one aspirant, Faruk Lawan, reportedly resisting the decision.

The aspirants, during a high-level meeting with Governor Yusuf at the Government House, collectively pledged to abide by any decision reached by the governor regarding the emergence of a consensus candidate for the constituency.

Sources familiar with the meeting disclosed that the contenders openly assured the governor of their loyalty to the party and their readiness to support whoever he eventually endorses as the preferred candidate in the spirit of unity, peace, and collective political interest.

Findings revealed that out of the 18 aspirants involved in the consultations, 17 accepted and aligned themselves with the governor’s decision after extensive deliberations with party leaders and stakeholders.

However, Faruk Lawan was said to have resisted the consensus arrangement by proceeding to purchase nomination and expression of interest forms, a move political observers interpreted as a sign of his determination to continue pursuing his ambition despite the earlier agreement reached with the state leadership.

Political stakeholders in Bagwai/Shanono Federal Constituency have nevertheless commended the maturity displayed by the majority of the aspirants for respecting the governor’s intervention and prioritizing party unity above personal interests.

Party loyalists across the constituency also expressed optimism that the overwhelming support shown by the aspirants for the consensus arrangement would further strengthen harmony within the party ahead of the forthcoming elections.

Several stakeholders therefore called on all party members and supporters to remain united and continue supporting the reconciliation efforts initiated by Governor Yusuf in order to preserve stability and political cooperation within the constituency.

As consultations continue among party leaders, attention now remains focused on whether Faruk Lawan will eventually align with the position collectively adopted by the other aspirants and key stakeholders in Bagwai/Shanono Federal Constituency.
