The local government elections held on Saturday across all eighteen local government areas of Cross River State saw a remarkable turnout of voters, particularly in the Nasarawa community.
Our correspondent visited three polling units, where citizens enthusiastically participated in the democratic process despite initial delays in the delivery of election materials.
Alhaji Sani Baba Gombe, the chief of the Hausa-Fulani community in Nasarawa, expressed his satisfaction with the turnout.
After casting his vote, he highlighted the importance of community involvement in local governance. “I am appealing to whoever wins the election for Calabar Municipal Local Government chairman to prioritize the needs of Nasarawa, particularly in road construction and health amenities,” he urged.
Hajiya Katume Garba, the woman leader of the All Progressives People’s Party, praised the efforts of the voters.
She commended the community’s engagement and participation in the electoral process, underscoring the significance of such civic responsibility.
As of the time of this report, voting was still ongoing, with residents actively engaging in the election process.
The strong turnout reflects a growing commitment to local governance and community development in Cross River State.
