The Cross River State Government has extended the dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed on the disputed boundary between Ugep and Idomi communities in Yakurr Local Government Area by an additional week to enable the completion of boundary demarcation and maintain peace in the affected areas.

According to a statement issued in Calabar on Tuesday by the State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Erasmus Ekpang, the curfew will remain in force from 6:00 p.m. on June 23, 2026, until 6:00 a.m. on June 29, 2026.

The government said the extension became necessary to allow the State Surveyor-General and his technical team to conclude work on the demarcation of the disputed land while preventing any further breakdown of law and order.

Security agencies have been directed to strictly enforce the curfew between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. daily.

Residents were urged to comply with the directive and report any suspicious activities within their communities to security authorities in order to sustain the prevailing peace.

The statement warned that anyone found violating the curfew would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The government also called on the Chairman of Yakurr Local Government Area, the Obol Lopon of Ugep, the Obol Lopon of Idomi, and other stakeholders to continue collaborating with security agencies in promoting peace and encouraging residents to remain calm throughout the demarcation exercise.

While expressing regret over the prolonged conflict, the state government reaffirmed its commitment to resolving the land dispute in a fair, peaceful, and transparent manner, with due consideration for the development and collective interests of the state.
