No fewer than eight people have died and 17 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a fatal road accident along the Funtua–Katsina Road.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident in a statement issued to journalists on Sunday by its Public Education Officer, Shamsudeen Bajo.
According to the statement, the crash involved a commercial Toyota Hilux with registration number 14B 92 TR and a Bajaj tricycle, which had no registration number.
The FRSC said a total of 25 people were involved in the accident, comprising 16 adult males, four adult females, two male children and three female children.
Preliminary investigations attributed the cause of the crash to wrongful overtaking.
The statement added that the 17 injured victims were evacuated to Bakori Comprehensive Hospital for medical treatment, while the bodies of the eight deceased were taken to Funtua General Hospital.
