Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, on Wednesday paid a solemn visit to Kawel Community in Mushere Chiefdom of Bokkos Local Government Area following the deadly attack on Sunday, June 21, 2026, which claimed the lives of 23 people and left one person injured.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, was accompanied by top government officials who expressed deep sorrow over the incident and conveyed the condolences of the government and people of Plateau State to the bereaved families and the entire Mushere community.
Governor Mutfwang described the attack as barbaric, senseless, and a direct assault on the sanctity of human life and the peace-loving nature of the people of Plateau State.
Addressing mourners in Kawel, many of whom wore black as a sign of mourning, the governor called on security agencies to intensify efforts to track down the perpetrators and ensure they face justice.
“Please let there be arrests. Those who carried out this wicked act must be brought to justice.
“Plateau people deserve to live in peace and security, and we will not relent until those responsible are identified and made to face the full weight of the law,” he said.
He assured the victims that his administration would continue to use all lawful means to protect communities across the state, adding that the government remained committed to safeguarding lives and property.
“These killings are not just wicked but reprehensible and unacceptable. I want to assure the victims that my administration stands firmly with you during this painful period.
“Our commitment to securing lives and property across the state remains unwavering,” Mutfwang added.
The governor urged residents, particularly farmers, to continue with their agricultural activities while remaining vigilant and maintaining close communication with security agencies and community leaders.
Earlier, Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Council, Hon. Amalau Samuel Amalau, described the attack as devastating, revealing that among those killed were farmers, two pregnant women, and healthcare workers at a Primary Healthcare Centre.
The Chairman of the Mushere Community Development Association (MCDA), Ambassador Duwam Bosco, called for a review of the existing security arrangement in the area to prevent further attacks.
Representing Mushere women, Mrs. Charity Ayuba appealed for unity among residents and urged the people to remain steadfast in defending the peace of their community.
Speaking on behalf of the victims’ families, Mr. Jethro Dukut raised concerns over events preceding the attack and called for a thorough investigation to prevent a recurrence of the tragedy.
