Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commended the Federal Government for suspending the planned increase in the National Examinations Council (NECO) examination fees, describing the decision as a timely intervention that will ease the financial burden on millions of Nigerian families and protect access to quality education.
Governor Yusuf gave the commendation on Tuesday during the flag-off ceremony for the distribution of permanent and pensionable appointment letters to 4,900 newly recruited teachers for basic and secondary schools, alongside the engagement of 3,688 Abba Gida-Gida BESDA Cohort V Facilitators at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium, Kofar Mata, Kano.
The Governor’s remarks were contained in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad.
Governor Yusuf also praised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for implementing reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at improving access to education, enhancing quality, and promoting equity across the country.
He specifically commended the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, for his leadership and commitment to policies that support inclusive and affordable education for all Nigerians.
The Governor further expressed appreciation to the Federal Ministry of Education and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), under the leadership of Hajiya Aisha Garba, for their unwavering support to Kano State.
He noted that the timely release of counterpart funds has accelerated the construction and rehabilitation of schools, as well as the implementation of other critical basic education projects across the state.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening the education sector, Governor Yusuf pledged to deepen collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, UBEC, NECO, and other relevant agencies to ensure that investments in education translate into improved learning outcomes and greater opportunities for Nigerian children.
