The Kano State Government has announced a major milestone in its healthcare delivery system, revealing that government-owned hospitals across the state now maintain over 90 per cent availability of essential medicines and medical consumables required for patient care.

The Executive Secretary of the Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency, Pharmacist Ghali Sule, disclosed this during a press briefing highlighting the achievements of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration in the health sector over the past three years.

He described the achievement as a direct result of the government’s deliberate investment in healthcare, strategic reforms in the procurement and distribution of medicines, and sustained commitment to strengthening public health institutions across the state.

According to Pharmacist Ghali, the present administration has significantly improved the supply of drugs and medical consumables by ensuring that government hospitals are consistently stocked with quality medicines and essential healthcare materials required for effective treatment.

He noted that the intervention has drastically reduced the persistent shortages that previously affected many public hospitals, while enhancing the capacity of health facilities to provide timely and quality healthcare services.

“Today, patients who visit our government hospitals can obtain more than 90 per cent of the medicines and medical consumables prescribed for their treatment.

“This achievement reflects Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s unwavering commitment to making quality healthcare accessible and affordable for every resident of Kano State,” he said.

The Executive Secretary explained that the agency has strengthened its supply chain management system through improved forecasting, transparent procurement processes, efficient warehousing, and the timely distribution of medicines and medical supplies to hospitals across the state’s 44 Local Government Areas.

He added that the increased availability of essential medicines has not only improved the quality of healthcare services but has also reduced patients’ dependence on private pharmacies, lowered out-of-pocket healthcare costs, and restored public confidence in government-owned hospitals.

Pharmacist Ghali further disclosed that the state government has continued to allocate substantial resources to the health sector as part of its broader agenda to improve healthcare infrastructure, ensure an uninterrupted supply of medicines, and enhance the welfare of residents.

He assured the public that the administration would sustain the momentum by making further investments in essential medicines, medical equipment, and other critical healthcare needs to ensure that both urban and rural communities continue to enjoy reliable and efficient healthcare services.

He also urged healthcare workers and hospital managers to maintain accountability in the management of medicines and medical consumables, emphasising that prudent stewardship of public resources remains vital to sustaining the gains recorded by the administration.

He said the achievements underscore the Kano State Government’s determination to build a resilient healthcare system capable of delivering affordable, accessible, and high-quality medical services to millions of residents, in line with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s vision of strengthening the state’s health sector and improving the well-being of its people.
