A group under the aegis of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has dispelled statements made by the chairman Sokoto State chapter of the party, Alhaji Bello Goronyo alleged that some members of the party had been contracted to destroy the party.
The leader of the group, Prof Hamza Maishanu, has refuted the allegation and described it as provocative statements that he observed will undoubtedly sow seeds of destruction in the party.
“We were very much disturbed by these statements consequent upon which we sought an audience with the chairman to get further clarification which he declined.
“This we thought is necessary to prepare and take preemptive and remedial measures to thwart this sinister effort if it is true,” Prof. Maishanu added.
The aggrieved PDP members further said they were going to resist the statements if the chairman failed to provide evidence to buttress his statements.
He said: “We as concerned members of the PDP in Sokoto state are democrats. We want democracy to thrive in the party.
“We will not accept appointments or is it crowning of party leaders to satisfy the primordial and selfish interest . Let the party members choose their leaders from the Ward level all through the state leadership.”
According to him the members of the group cut across the 23 Local Government Areas of the State, are worried about the health and wellbeing of the party in the State.
Prof Maishanu who was the former governorship aspirant of the party in 2019 before stepping down for Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, noted that the group represents a broad spectrum of party members across the nooks and crannies of the state.
“We are requesting Bello Goronyo to tell us those who are contracted to sow a seed of destruction in PDP.
“If his utterance is intended to spread unfounded rumours to create a wedge among party members to appropriate the party for selfish interest, it would be resisted with vigour,” he said.
