The Gwagware Foundation, a non-governmental organisation based in Katsina State, has partnered with the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), Kano office, to establish an Islamic Open University in the state.

Discussions between the two organisations are already at an advanced stage, with facilities for the institution’s take-off inspected by a team from IIIT led by Prof. Bashir Galadanchi.

Galadanchi, who commended the foundation’s preparedness, said the proposed university would be hosted at Gwagware’s headquarters along Daura Road, which boasts spacious classrooms, ICT facilities, and a lecture hall suitable for advanced learning. The team also visited Atta’awanu Islamic Library, Atta’awanu Radio/TV, Qur’anic Science School, and Atta’awanu Orphanage Homes.

Receiving the IIIT officials, Gwagware Foundation Chairman, Yusuf Aliyu Musawa, noted the similarities in both organisations’ goals and reiterated his commitment to the partnership.

“We are committed to sustaining the activities of this foundation for the benefit of our communities and unborn generations. We will provide the necessary facilities to ensure the smooth take-off and academic progression of the university,” Musawa said.

He added that the initiative aimed to contribute to the advancement of Islamic knowledge and thought.

Prof. Galadanchi disclosed that the university’s curriculum would include vocational and technical training to make graduates economically self-reliant.

“With Gwagware Foundation as our partner, I believe our dream can be realised more easily,” he said.
