Thousands of youth in Sokoto State have defied calls from various quarters asking them to restrain from the nationwide protest and staged the planned protest.

However, the state has stood still as all activities have been paralyzed as commuters have desert roads linking the state with other neighbouring states.

While markets and other business centers remain closed and security personnel were deployed to strategic locations across the state.

The aggrieved youth in their procession carry placards carrying various inscriptions displaying their grievances and passing their messages across the board.

The Protestants comprised of males and females under different banners turned out in large numbers from various directions within the metropolis had as early as 8:am converged on the popular Alu flyover in the metropolis to stage a peaceful procession passing through some major streets chanting slogans.

During the protest, the youth expressed their displeasure with the hardship situation while others were displaying leaves to express their concerns.

The procession which was under the watch of stern-looking security personnel marched along Ahmadu Bello Way towards Kano-Gusau road to the popular round Mai Ruwa and headed to the Sokoto Government House.

However, the angry-looking youths rented the air with slogans such as ” we want justice, equity and fairness” just as some of the placards read: ” End bad governance”, ” We are hungry”, ” Tinubu return subsidy”, ” Tinubu must go”, ” Solve Sokoto security challenges” and ” We stand on N65 per litre of PMS” among many others.

The leading vocals in the protest, Mustapha Abubakar said they were out to be heard for the needful to be done by our leaders whom we elected.

“It’s unfortunate that we are worst hit by poverty, hunger, insecurity and banditry. All these need to be addressed including the issue of fuel subsidy which should be returned,” he said.
