From Mu’awiya Bala Idris, Katsina
A governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Katsina State, Lawal Musa Daura, has described himself as the most qualified person to rescue the state from its current security and economic challenges.
Daura rejected the party’s consensus arrangement that produced Senator Ahmed Babba Kaita as the ADC governorship candidate, insisting that he remains in the race for the state’s top seat.
Speaking during a meeting with his supporters at Munaj Event Centre in Katsina, Daura said his ambition was driven by his love for the state and his determination to address the numerous challenges facing its people.
“Katsina State is in dire need of rescue, security-wise, economically, and in every other respect. We are indigenes of Katsina, and we have what it takes to salvage and rescue our people,” he said.
The former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) maintained that he is highly qualified for the governorship position.
“I am qualified, even overqualified, for the position. My decision to seek the governorship is because of my love for Katsina and my desire to rescue my people,” he added.
Daura explained that he convened the meeting to brief his supporters on reports surrounding the party’s consensus process, which produced candidates for various elective positions.
According to him, the consensus arrangement failed to comply with the party’s constitution and the provisions of the Electoral Act.
He also rejected the party’s decision assigning him to contest for the Daura Senatorial seat, reiterating that his interest remains the governorship position.
The aspirant called on the leadership of the ADC to adhere to the Electoral Act by either conducting a fresh consensus process acceptable to all stakeholders or organizing an indirect primary election.
He urged his supporters to remain calm, patient, and law-abiding while awaiting the outcome of ongoing efforts aimed at reaching an acceptable resolution to the dispute.
