The Katsina State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project has distributed agricultural inputs to 600 farmers across Katsina, Jibia, and Kaita Local Government Areas as part of efforts to enhance food production, strengthen climate resilience, and improve rural livelihoods.

The intervention, carried out in Kabukawa community of Katsina Local Government Area, is aimed at supporting smallholder farmers with essential farming tools and inputs to increase productivity and contribute to food security in the state.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, the Katsina ACReSAL Project Coordinator, Alhaji Nafiu Muhammad Musa, represented by the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Aminu Ahmed, said the initiative aligns with the project’s mandate of promoting sustainable livelihoods and building resilience among vulnerable communities.

He explained that beneficiaries were selected through a transparent, community-based process to ensure that the support reached genuine farmers actively engaged in agricultural activities.

According to him, a committee established by the project visited communities across the three local government areas to identify eligible beneficiaries and ensure fairness and accountability in the distribution process.

The project coordinator noted that the intervention reflects the commitment of the Katsina State Government and its development partners to strengthening agricultural production and supporting rural households.

He urged the beneficiaries to make effective use of the farm inputs to boost crop yields, improve household incomes, and enhance food security within their communities.

Items distributed included solar-powered water pumps, improved crop seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, wheelbarrows, planters, and knapsack sprayers.

Beneficiaries commended Governor Dikko Umar Radda, the World Bank, and the Katsina ACReSAL Project for the support, describing it as timely and impactful.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, a farmer from Gadirge community in Jibia Local Government Area, Malam Jamilu Lawal, said the intervention would ease the burden of rising agricultural input costs and enable farmers to expand production during the farming season.

He noted that the support would not only improve farm productivity but also contribute to increased food availability and economic growth in the benefiting communities.

The beneficiaries pledged to utilize the inputs responsibly to maximize agricultural output and support the state’s drive toward sustainable rural development and improved food security.
