The Katsina State Sharia Court of Appeal has pledged to partner with the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) to ensure the speedy dispensation of justice and reduce delays in trials before Sharia courts across the state.
Grand Kadi, Prof. Mohammed Kabir Abubakar, made the commitment while receiving officials of the NBA, Funtua Branch, during a courtesy visit to his office.
He described Sharia courts and legal practitioners as partners in protecting the rights of individuals and promoting access to justice.
“We need to support, understand, and cooperate for efficient service to complainants so as to continue earning respect from the public,” he said, adding that collaboration was key to strengthening the Sharia justice system and ensuring peace in society.
Prof. Abubakar noted that the visit would provide a platform to exchange ideas and bridge existing gaps between his office and the NBA. He assured the delegation that his office would remain open for continued engagement and mutual support.
He also promised to forward the association’s request for amendments to some provisions of the 2008 Sharia Court Law to the state government for possible review.
The Grand Kadi urged NBA members to fear Allah and prioritize the public interest while carrying out their duties as legal professionals.
Earlier, Chairman of NBA Funtua Branch, Barr. Ibrahim Korau, said the visit was aimed at strengthening the working relationship with the Grand Kadi’s office and identifying areas to improve service delivery in Sharia courts.
Barr. Korau also reiterated the association’s call on the state government to amend certain sections of the 2008 Sharia Court Law to reflect current realities and enhance the justice system.
