The Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nasiru Yahaya Daura, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Daura Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Yahaya secured the ticket following the party’s primary election conducted across the senatorial district in a peaceful, transparent, and orderly atmosphere.

The exercise witnessed massive participation from party stakeholders, delegates, and members across the 12 local government areas of the district.

A total of 81,134 delegates were accredited for the exercise, while 80,661 votes were successfully cast across the 128 electoral wards in the senatorial district.

Announcing the results at the collation centre in Daura, the Chairman of the APC Primary Elections Committee from the party’s national headquarters, Dr. Yakubu Machido, declared Nasiru Yahaya winner of the contest after polling 78,395 votes.

His closest rival, Ahmed Kabir Abdullahi, polled 2,274 votes.

Earlier, the Returning Officer, Alhaji Shafiu Duwan, commended the peaceful and orderly conduct of the exercise across all wards, describing the process as transparent, credible, and well-organised.

Meanwhile, two serving senators from Katsina State also secured APC tickets to contest the 2027 elections through consensus and affirmation by party stakeholders.

Senator Muhtari Dandutse, representing Katsina South Senatorial District, and Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, representing Katsina Central Senatorial District, were affirmed by party members during separate exercises witnessed by Governor Dikko Umar Radda and thousands of APC supporters.

Earlier, the Chairman of the APC National Headquarters Consensus and Affirmation Committee, Garba Saleh Gombe, commended the peaceful conduct of the exercises in the state.

Gombe said Katsina State had set a national benchmark in the implementation of the party’s consensus arrangement.
