The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Kebbi State Chapter, led by Comrade Zaki Sarki SK, has commended the All Progressives Congress (APC) at both the national and state levels for adopting Governor Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The union said the unanimous endorsement reflects the confidence and trust APC stakeholders across the 21 local government areas of Kebbi State have in Governor Idris’ leadership and achievements during his first term in office.
According to the union, the Idris administration has recorded notable progress in education, healthcare, infrastructure development, and workers’ welfare.
The NUT noted that through his open-door leadership style, prompt payment of salaries and gratuities, massive investment in schools, and people-oriented projects, Governor Idris has restored public confidence in governance and set a standard for responsive leadership in the state.
Comrade Zaki Sarki SK emphasized that Governor Idris’ background in organized labour has given him a better understanding of the needs of workers and educators.
He stated that, as a former National President of the NUT and former Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the governor has consistently prioritized teachers’ welfare, improved working conditions, and sustained dialogue between government and labour unions.
The Kebbi State NUT Chapter also acknowledged and commended the support of the current NUT National President, Comrade Amba Titus Audu, for his dedication to service and commitment to the welfare of teachers across the country.
The union further noted that Governor Idris, as the immediate past NUT President and former Deputy National President of the NLC, continues to uphold the values of organized labour in governance.
The teachers’ union also praised the APC National Committee for the gubernatorial primaries for conducting what it described as a transparent and credible process in line with the Electoral Act and party guidelines.
It further applauded Governor Idris’ commitment to consolidating the achievements of his first term and his promise to run an inclusive administration that will leave no community behind.
“As key partners in education and nation-building, the NUT Kebbi State Chapter looks forward to strengthening collaboration with the state government to advance quality education, improve workers’ welfare, and accelerate the socio-economic transformation of Kebbi State,” the statement added.
The union prayed for God’s continued guidance, wisdom, and strength for Governor Idris as he continues to lead the state toward greater growth and prosperity.
