Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has described investment in road infrastructure as an investment in the future, as he commissioned a newly completed road network in the Buzaye area of Sokoto metropolis.
Kefas, who was in Sokoto on a one-day working visit, inaugurated the project executed by the administration of Governor Ahmed Aliyu as part of ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and enhance economic development across the state.
Speaking at the ceremony on Monday, the Taraba governor described his visit as a homecoming, noting the longstanding historical and cultural ties between Taraba and Sokoto states.
He commended Governor Aliyu for delivering people-oriented projects, saying the administration had demonstrated commitment to providing the dividends of democracy through strategic investments in infrastructure.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu explained that the Buzaye Area Road Network Project, valued at about N3.7 billion, covers Argungu Road, Gobir Road, Lanzu Road and other connecting roads within the community.
He said the project forms part of the state’s Urban Renewal Programme aimed at modernising Sokoto metropolis and improving access to residential areas, schools, healthcare facilities, markets and business centres.
According to the governor, quality road infrastructure remains the backbone of sustainable socio-economic development because it facilitates the movement of people and goods, enhances security, stimulates commerce and improves the quality of life.
Aliyu said the newly completed roads would ease transportation challenges, strengthen connectivity and create fresh economic opportunities for residents and businesses in the area.
He reiterated that his administration views infrastructure development as more than the construction of roads and buildings, describing it as a long-term investment in human capital, economic prosperity and inclusive development.
The governor assured residents that his administration would continue to implement projects that promote balanced urban and rural development while improving living standards across the state.
He commended the Ministry of Lands and Housing, contractors, consultants, engineers and other stakeholders for ensuring the successful completion of the project, and also appreciated residents of the Buzaye community for their patience and cooperation throughout the construction period.
Aliyu urged the public to protect and properly utilise the road network, stressing that public infrastructure is a collective asset that must be preserved for future generations.
He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting infrastructure development across the country.
Earlier, Chairman of Sokoto South Local Government Area, Alhaji Yau Muhammad Danda, praised Governor Aliyu’s developmental achievements, saying residents of the council had witnessed unprecedented improvements under the current administration.
He also acknowledged the contributions of APC leader in the state, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, to the state’s development agenda.
