In line with the United Nations General Assembly Declaration on the Celebration of the World Youth Skills Day, the Kano State Government has commemorated the day with a charge to the youth to look inward, identify their aspirations, dreams, talents and potentials to put them into positive use for socio-economic development of the state.

In his keynote address at the occasion held today at the Dangote Ultra-Modern Skills Acquisitions Centre, the state governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, stated that the youth are the greatest assets any nation can have and thus legitimately regarded as the future leaders who are potentially the highest investment of a country’s socio-economic, political and technological development.

The governor has further pledged to complete the construction of skills acquisition centres across the state’s 44 local government areas initiated by the administration of the former governor of the state, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, lamenting the immediate past regime of Ganduje for abandoning the projects.

His words: “My administration will ensure the prompt completion of the institutions. We’ll also build students hostels in all the institutions and hold the responsibllity of the student’s welfare. In line with this, my administration will set up an amount of money as a monthly stipend for the students.

He assured the government of unreserved commitment to full implementation of the core mandate of youth development policies in line with the policy thrust of NNPP through its numerous skill acquisition programmes which he said, has been exhibited through various investment and intervention programmes and thus urged the youth to reciprocate by putting their talents to positive use.

Earlier speaking, the Minister of State for Youth, Mr Ayodele Olawande, commended the state Dangote Ultra-Modern Skills Acquisitions Centre for its giant strike in transforming the lives of youths to become more resourceful and useful in their respective environments.

Mr Olawande has further disclosed that his Ministry is set to empower seven million youth with various skills training across the 36 states of the country.

On his part, the coordinator of the Centre, Alkasim Hussaini Wudil expressed overwhelming gratitude to the state governor, Abba K. Yusuf for his immense contributions to the Center.

According to him, about 260 different categories applied for the exhibition, ranging from Universities, Colleges of Education and Polytechnics and individuals, but after thorough consultation, they selected 136 who attended and showcased their talents to the world.

He charged stakeholders at all levels to emulate Governor’s Yusuf unwavering commitment to giving youth room to blossoms blossom and actualized their dreams and cover their potential.
