Renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Halliru Maraya, has commended former Kano State Governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, for his commitment to religious tolerance and inclusivity.

Speaking at the 10th Authentic News Daily Lecture and Awards held at Arewa House in Kaduna, Maraya cited Kwankwaso’s choice of a Christian running mate during the last presidential election as a clear demonstration of his respect for religious diversity and unity.

In a related remark at the event, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory, Rev. Dr. John Joseph Hayab, emphasized the vital role religion can play in fostering peace and national cohesion.

Delivering his address, Rev. Hayab stated that when practiced sincerely, religion inspires love, compassion, forgiveness, and justice. He urged religious leaders and faith-based communities to actively discourage divisive rhetoric and instead champion reconciliation, understanding, and mutual respect.

Hayab further called on Nigerians to collectively nurture a culture of trust and unity, using religion as a tool for healing and societal progress. He also highlighted the importance of instilling positive values in the younger generation and empowering women to take on transformative roles in nation-building.

The event served as a platform to underscore the importance of religious harmony in Nigeria and the role of faith leaders in advancing peace and unity across the country.
