From Maawuya Bala Idris, Katsina
The Katsina State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended Sen. Umar Ibrahim Tsauri, a former National Secretary of the party, over allegations of anti-party activities.
The decision was announced in a letter jointly signed by the Ward Chairman and Secretary of Tsauri Ward A, Danjuma Abubakar and Abdullahi Garba, respectively.
The letter, addressed to the state Party Executive, stated that Senator Tsauri’s “unguarded utterances” were causing embarrassment to the party and bringing it into disrepute.
The suspension was carried out in accordance with Article 59 (1) of the PDP constitution.
In response to the suspension, the party at the state level has constituted a committee to investigate the matter.
The committee will summon the senator to defend himself, according to the party’s spokesperson, Lawal Audi Yar’adua.
However, Sen. Tsauri has denied the allegations against him and insisted that he remains a card-carrying member of the PDP.
He argued that his suspension violates the party’s constitution.
