The Yobe State Police Command has arrested 14 suspected drug dealers during a raid on criminal hideouts and drug joints at Buduwa Market in Jakusko Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Damaturu.

According to him, the operation was carried out around 2:00 p.m. by the Area Commander, Gashua, who led a joint team of police personnel from Bade ‘A’ and Bade ‘B’ Divisions, Area Command Gashua, Garin Alkali, Yusufari and Jakusko Divisions, alongside members of the Peace Group Vigilante.

He said the operation was targeted at identified criminal hideouts and drug distribution centres within the area.

“The operation led to the arrest of 14 suspects who were allegedly involved in the sale, consumption and abuse of illicit drugs and other intoxicating substances,” the statement said.

The police revealed that more than 300 sachets and packages of suspected illicit substances were recovered during the raid.

The items included Tramadol, Vega tablets, Indian hemp and other prohibited drugs.

The command added that investigation was ongoing, with the suspects providing useful information that could assist detectives in apprehending other members of the suspected criminal network.

It stated that the suspects would be charged to court after the completion of the investigation.

The Yobe State Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, has directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Commanders to sustain raids on identified criminal hideouts and blackspots across the state.

The commissioner reaffirmed the command’s zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and substance abuse, describing the activities as major contributors to violent crimes and other criminal acts.

He also urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies to support efforts aimed at making Yobe safer.
