A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Senator Ibrahim Shema Turaki has nominated a prominent opposition figure in Katsina State, Dr. Mustapha Inuwa, as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

The faction reportedly reached the decision after a meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan. It has also purchased the party’s nomination form and submitted Dr. Inuwa’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Addressing his supporters in Katsina, Dr. Inuwa confirmed meeting with former President Jonathan but said he had not yet accepted the PDP’s nomination.

He maintained that he remains a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and has not resigned from the party.

According to him, he will only decide whether to join the PDP after the court delivers its judgment on the leadership dispute within the party.

Displaying the PDP nomination form and a copy of the letter submitted to INEC bearing his name, Dr. Inuwa said he would contest on the PDP platform if the court ruling favours the Turaki-led faction.

“The court case is expected to be decided next week. We will wait for the outcome before taking any decision,” he said.

Dr. Inuwa also expressed concern over the crisis within the ADC in Katsina State, blaming it on what he described as selfish interests in the nomination of governorship and National Assembly candidates.

He said the dispute could be resolved if the party leadership respected the wishes of the majority of its members and strictly adhered to the provisions of the Electoral Act in the nomination of candidates.

He stressed that his involvement in politics was not driven by personal gain but by the desire to produce credible leaders capable of addressing Nigeria’s numerous challenges.

According to him, the country’s economic hardship and insecurity are the result of a lack of sincere and God-fearing leadership.

Dr. Inuwa further disclosed that he had turned down several offers of political appointments from the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that his political struggle was for the benefit of future generations rather than personal interest.

He thanked his supporters for their loyalty and urged them to remain united and abide by whatever decision he takes regarding his political future.

Earlier, another ADC governorship aspirant, Lawal Musa Daura, announced his decision to join forces with Dr. Inuwa to pursue what he described as a common vision for the development of Katsina State.

Represented by Engr. Tukur Gambo, Daura called on the people of the state to support the movement aimed at bringing positive change to Katsina.
