From Muawuya Bala Idris, Katsina

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, on Thursday flagged off the construction of a 4-kilometre Filin Polo–Ring Road Asphalt Concrete project, describing it as a long-overdue intervention for one of the state capital’s most neglected communities.

Radda said the single-carriageway road, which will feature solar-powered streetlights, drainage and walkways, is expected to ease congestion, enhance security and open up Filin Polo for new economic growth.

“For years, this area suffered from poor access, congestion and insecurity. This project is not just a road; it is an investment in the quality of life of our people,” the governor said.

He disclosed that the contract was awarded to Mothercat Limited at ₦4bn, with a completion deadline of 12 months. According to him, the state government has already released 40 per cent of the mobilisation funds to ensure immediate commencement and timely delivery.

Radda also assured that residents whose properties fall within the project’s alignment would be duly compensated. He said assessments had been completed “in line with due process and fairness.”

The governor commended the Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport for preparing the project design and warned that close monitoring would be carried out to prevent delays and ensure quality execution. He urged residents of Filin Polo and neighbouring communities to support and protect the project, noting that its success depends on community cooperation.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works and Housing, Engr. (Dr.) Sani Magaji Ingawa, described the project as a deliberate step toward urban renewal and infrastructure expansion.

“This corridor will attract investments, raise property values and create a cleaner, safer environment for thousands of residents,” he said, adding that the road would finally address years of poor access, environmental challenges and night-time insecurity in the area.

Ingawa appealed for full community cooperation during the construction phase, saying the project “belongs to the people” and must be protected.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Katsina Local Government Area, Hon. Isah Miqdad, thanked the governor on behalf of Filin Polo residents.

“Our people appreciate this development and the attention given to this area,” he said, assuring Radda of the community’s support for his administration.
