Our attention has been drawn to a publication titled “2027: APC clears Farouk Lawan for Reps seat in Kano,” which alleged that stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bagwai/Shanono Federal Constituency endorsed Hon. Farouk Lawan as the party’s sole candidate for the House of Representatives seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

For the avoidance of doubt, and in the interest of fairness, truth, and accurate public information, we wish to categorically state that no meeting was held in which stakeholders endorsed Hon. Farouk Lawan as the consensus or sole candidate of the party.

What actually transpired at the meeting held at the Kano State Government House, in the presence of the Executive Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, was entirely different from what was reported.

At the meeting, stakeholders from Bagwai and Shanono Local Government Areas unanimously agreed that the Governor should exercise his discretion in selecting one candidate between the two aspirants, the incumbent member representing the constituency, Hon. Yusuf Ahmad Badau, and former lawmaker, Hon. Farouk Lawan, with the understanding that whoever the Governor selects would become the party’s preferred candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election.

Following wide consultations and deliberations, Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf eventually selected Hon. Yusuf Ahmad Badau as the preferred candidate, and the decision was accepted by all stakeholders present at the meeting, except Hon. Farouk Lawan.

It is therefore misleading and inaccurate for anyone to claim that stakeholders endorsed Hon. Farouk Lawan or adopted him as the sole candidate of the party.

We urge media organisations and political actors to always verify facts before publication in order to avoid misleading the public and creating unnecessary political tension within the constituency.
