Islamic and Christian leaders in Kebbi State have called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to organize a national prayer session to seek divine intervention in addressing the persistent armed banditry in Northern Nigeria.
The leaders gathered for a special prayer session in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday, organized by the Kebbi State Government. The event brought together Islamic scholars and Christian pastors and marked the fifth initiative under Governor Nasir Idris’s efforts to tackle the menace.
Abdullahi Idris Sadaukin Zuru, Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to the Governor, said the unity of religious leaders underscored Nigerians’ commitment to peace and national cohesion, regardless of religious differences. He added that the event demonstrated broad support for the state government’s ongoing security efforts.
Governor Idris urged residents to sustain prayers within their local communities while continuing to support government initiatives aimed at restoring peace.
Among the religious leaders present were Sheikh Abdulrahman Isah Jega, Sheikh Abbas Muhammadu Jega, Sheikh Umar Malisa, and Sheikh Abubakar Ribah representing Muslim faithful, as well as Rev. Femi Oropin, Rev. Nuhu Mamman Gudul, Rev. Joshua Ochimana, and retired Justice Mairiga representing Christian faithful.
The leaders expressed confidence in Governor Idris’s commitment to addressing security challenges in Kebbi and neighboring states. They also requested President Tinubu to direct the organization of a national prayer across Nigeria to invoke divine intervention for peace in affected areas.
The call follows a series of steps by Governor Idris, including consultations with the Northern Traditional Rulers Council, the Progressive Governors Forum, and the Kebbi Elders Consultative Forum, aimed at finding lasting solutions to insecurity in the region.
