The Kaduna State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Usman Shehu Bawa, popularly known as Shehu ABG, has promised equitable distribution of resources across the three senatorial zones of the state if elected governor.
He also pledged that budget preparation and implementation under his administration would be driven by the actual needs and priorities of the people.
Shehu ABG made the commitments during a town hall meeting with PDP stakeholders from Zone One, held in Zaria over the weekend.
According to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Yusuf Idris, the meeting attracted religious leaders, student groups, women and youth organisations, Community Development Associations, party officials at the state and local government levels, as well as PDP candidates contesting various positions.
The governorship candidate, alongside his running mate, Amos Adamu Gandu, said their proposed administration would prioritise people-centred policies through a bottom-up approach to governance, in which citizens would determine their development needs rather than have government impose decisions on them.
He explained that the approach would ensure that government policies, projects and budgetary allocations reflected the genuine aspirations of communities across the state.
While soliciting the support of the electorate, Shehu ABG assured the people that a PDP-led government under his leadership would be anchored on fairness, accountability, inclusiveness and respect for the rule of law.
In his remarks, the PDP Zonal Chairman, Alhaji Danbaba SayaSaya, urged the party’s candidates to intensify grassroots mobilisation and take their manifestos directly to the electorate.
He expressed optimism about the party’s prospects, declaring that there was already a light at the end of the tunnel for the PDP.
Similarly, the PDP State Chairman, Edward Percy Marsha, cautioned the people of Kaduna State against making what he described as another mistake in their political choices.
He urged voters to assess the different leadership styles and records of political parties, particularly in the delivery of democratic dividends and the provision of responsive governance.
In separate remarks, representatives of religious organisations, students, Community Development Associations, women and youth groups expressed their willingness to support the PDP governorship candidate.
They also expressed satisfaction with the policy direction and commitments outlined by Shehu ABG, particularly his promises of equitable resource distribution, inclusive governance and people-driven development.
The town hall meeting formed part of the PDP’s engagement with stakeholders at the grassroots, aimed at presenting its vision and securing the support of citizens ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
