Elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa South Senatorial District have endorsed Chief Peter Leonard Ndwacho Fwa as their preferred candidate for the senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking with journalists during the endorsement meeting, the leader of the elders, Muyinani Peter Aini, said the group carefully reviewed recent political developments within the party as preparations gather momentum for the 2027 elections.
The elders, drawn from the nine local government areas that make up Adamawa South Senatorial District — Numan, Lamurde, Demsa, Guyuk, Shelleng, Ganye, Jada, Mayo-Belwa and Toungo said they were fully aligned with the party leadership’s commitment to a transparent, credible and peaceful primary process.
Aini stated that in view of the ongoing political alignments and realignments within the party, Chief Peter Leonard Ndwacho Fwa remains their preferred and authentic candidate for the Adamawa South Senatorial seat.
According to him, Fwa contested for the same position in 2019 and performed creditably during the process.
“He was widely accepted by delegates as the candidate of choice but, in the interest of party unity and based on the advice of elders, he stepped down for the eventual winner.
“This singular act demonstrated his respect for party supremacy, discipline and collective interest above personal ambition,” Aini said.
He added that since then, Fwa has remained loyal and committed to the growth and stability of the APC without seeking appointments or personal benefits.
Describing him as a grassroots politician, Aini noted that Fwa had consistently supported party activities at ward, local government and state levels, both financially and physically.
He further stated that Fwa’s aspiration to represent Adamawa South in the Senate was driven by a genuine desire to serve the people.
“Having lived among the people and shared in their realities, he possesses a deep understanding of their needs and aspirations.
“Chief Fwa has demonstrated this commitment through youth empowerment initiatives, skills acquisition programmes, scholarship support for indigent students, as well as active involvement in peace-building and job creation efforts,” he said.
The elders maintained that Fwa’s track record showed he was prepared not only to lead but also to serve, adding that his ambition was aimed at addressing challenges such as underdevelopment, insecurity and youth unemployment in the zone.
While acknowledging the credentials of other aspirants, the group said many of them had held public offices without making significant impact on the district.
“In contrast, the contributions and interventions of Chief Peter Leonard Fwa are visible, measurable and people-oriented,” Aini added.
The elders therefore unanimously endorsed Fwa as their preferred candidate and called on Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, party leaders and other stakeholders to support his aspiration to emerge as the APC flag bearer for Adamawa South Senatorial District in the 2027 elections.
They expressed confidence that supporting Fwa would strengthen the APC’s chances of victory and ensure effective and people-centred representation for the district.
Several elders who spoke at the event also commended Governor Fintiri and pledged to mobilise support for the aspiration of Chief Fwa across the zone.
