The Cross River State Police Command has confirmed that investigation into the alleged serial murder case in Creek Town, Odukpani Local Government Area, is ongoing, with the suspect currently in custody assisting investigators.

The Command’s spokesperson, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, disclosed that preliminary findings are yielding useful information as the suspect continues to provide detailed statements to the police.

According to him, the suspect, identified as Akaninyine Eretus (male), 40 years, was arrested in connection with the alleged killings of two individuals, Okokon and Okon (other identities yet to be fully established), which reportedly occurred on May 24 and 25, 2026.

ASP Akata stated that during interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to the killings, claiming that one victim was attacked while asleep, while the second was killed with a machete.

He further explained that the suspect claimed his actions were motivated by a desire to avenge the deaths of his parents and two elder brothers, who he alleged were killed during a communal crisis in the area about 29 years ago.

The police further confirmed that two bodies suspected to be those of the victims have been recovered and deposited at a hospital morgue for preservation, identification, and autopsy.

However, the command emphasized that the suspect’s statements are still subject to thorough investigation and verification.

The police urged members of the public to avoid spreading unverified information, rumours, or messages that could compromise the ongoing investigation or create unnecessary tension in the community.

Residents were advised to rely only on official updates from the Cross River State Police Command as investigations continue, with further developments expected to be communicated in due course.
