In a renewed effort to reposition and sustain its operations, the management of The Triumph Publishing Company Limited, Kano, has paid a courtesy visit to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim, seeking continued support to strengthen the organization’s independence and efficiency.

The delegation was led by the Acting Managing Director of the company, Malam Muhammad Hamisu Abdullahi, who said the visit was part of ongoing initiatives to ensure that the newspaper remains vibrant and continues to serve its wide readership across the country.

Addressing the SSG, Malam Abdullahi expressed appreciation for the support the organization has been receiving from the state government over the years, noting that the company has remained a reliable platform for disseminating government policies and programmes.

He highlighted the historical and developmental contributions of the firm, alongside its publications, The Triumph, Alfijir and Albishir, describing them as key media platforms that have significantly shaped public communication in the state, Northern part of the country and beyond.

“We are here as the management of The Triumph Newspapers to acknowledge and appreciate the support extended to us, particularly in enabling the papers to consistently cover government activities,” he said.

According to him, the organization has continued to play a critical role in human capital development, serving as a training ground for aspiring journalists and media practitioners.

“The Triumph Newspapers provide opportunities for young people, especially those with a passion for journalism.

“The company also accommodates students for Industrial Training (IT), as well as participants of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and other professional engagements,” he added.

The Acting Managing Director, however, revealed that the company had recently faced operational challenges, which had affected its ability to produce hard copy editions of the newspaper.

“For some weeks now, The Triumph Newspapers have not been printing hard copies as it used to, largely due to financial constraints involving Daily Trust, which handles part of the printing process,” he explained.

He further attributed the situation partly to global economic pressures, including the impact of the Iran–US crisis, which had disrupted business operations and increased production costs.

Despite these challenges, Malam Abdullahi assured that efforts were underway to reposition the company for self-reliance.

“The state Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, together with the ministry, is making concerted efforts to ensure that The Triumph Newspapers become self-sustaining and resume independent publication without relying on external companies,” he said.

He therefore appealed for the cooperation and assistance of the SSG, stressing that the management remains committed to promoting government activities and maintaining professional standards in its operations.

Responding on behalf of the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Ibrahim, the Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Hajiya Aisha Abba Kailani, commended the management for its dedication and acknowledged the vital role the newspapers have continued to play in projecting government programmes.

She expressed satisfaction with the contributions of The Triumph Newspapers and assured the delegation that their concerns would receive due attention.

Hajiya Kailani further stated that she would brief the SSG on the outcome of the visit and formally present the document submitted by the management, detailing the issues discussed and areas requiring intervention.

The visit was expected to yield positive outcomes, with indications that concrete decisions may be taken at the next Executive Council meeting.
