The Yobe State Security Council, chaired by Governor Mai Mala Buni, has commended residents of the state for conducting themselves peacefully during the political party primaries held so far.

Speaking to journalists after the council meeting, the Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, Usman Kamfani Jibrin, said the council advised individuals or groups dissatisfied with the outcome of the primaries to seek redress through lawful and constituted authorities.

He stated that security agencies in the state remain fully alert and warned that any attempt to disrupt the peace would be dealt with decisively.

The police commissioner further warned that any individual or group involved in sponsoring or participating in political violence, banditry, or thuggery would face the full wrath of the law.

According to him, security agencies have uncovered alleged plans by some politicians to import thugs into the state to create unrest.

“We are working on the identity of the sponsors and anyone involved,” he said.

Jibrin also cautioned politicians against holding political rallies outside the approved timetable, stressing that it was not yet time for such activities.

In another development, the public has been urged to remain vigilant and observant of suspicious movements within their communities.

The Governor’s Adviser on Security Affairs, Dahiru Abdulsalam, gave the advice, noting that criminals fleeing ongoing military operations in the bush may seek refuge in communities.

He urged residents to report suspicious persons or movements around their localities, warning that anyone found harbouring criminals would be apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
