The Zamfara State House of Assembly has approved the extension of the suspension of seven lawmakers for an additional legislative session over alleged misconduct and violations of the House Standing Orders.
The decision was reached during plenary presided over by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki.
According to a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Speaker’s office, Bello Madaro Kurya, the affected lawmakers are currently under investigation over allegations bordering on misconduct and breach of legislative procedures.
The resolution followed a motion moved by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Bello Muhammad Mazawajje, representing Tsafe East Constituency, and seconded by Hon. Ibrahim Garba Liman of Gusau II Constituency.
While presenting the motion, Hon. Mazawajje explained that although the initial suspension period had expired, the matter remains before the court, making it necessary for the House to formally extend the disciplinary action pending judicial determination.
Following deliberations, members of the House unanimously agreed to extend the suspension of the affected lawmakers.
The suspended members are Hon. Bashir Abubakar of Bukkuyum North Constituency, Hon. Bashir Aliyu of Gummi I Constituency, Hon. Nasiru Abdullahi of Maru North Constituency, Hon. Faruku Musa Dosara of Maradun I Constituency, Hon. Amiru Ahmad Keta of Tsafe West Constituency, Hon. Ibrahim T. Tukur of Bakura Constituency, and Hon. Bashir Bello of Bungudu West Constituency.
