Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has presented the staff of office to the newly appointed Töl Huba of Hong, Barrister Alheri Bulus Nyako, marking a historic moment for the Huba people.
The ceremony, held in Hong Local Government Area, was attended by dignitaries from across the Northeast and neighboring Cameroon, celebrating the restoration of the Huba Chiefdom.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Fintiri urged the new Töl Huba to embrace inclusivity and fairness in his leadership, emphasizing that he is a leader for all. Reflecting on history, Fintiri noted that the creation of chiefdoms and emirates aims to correct past injustices.
According to him, the Huba Chiefdom was once an autonomous entity before colonial administrators downgraded it to a district under central administration.
With Barrister Alheri Bulus Nyako’s coronation, the kingdom has officially regained its traditional status.
“My administration remains modest and deliberate in resisting the temptation to take undue credit for this achievement,” Fintiri stated, urging the people of Hong to celebrate responsibly and recognize the will of God in their success.
He reiterated that the establishment of chiefdoms and emirates is intended to strengthen grassroots governance, foster unity among citizens, and create rallying points for communities across Adamawa State.
The governor also tasked Töl Huba Nyako with mobilizing his subjects for the development of the fourteen districts under his domain.
In his acceptance speech, Töl Huba Alheri Bulus Nyako acknowledged the century-long struggle that led to this historic moment. He pledged to govern with fairness, justice, transparency, and accountability while promoting unity, peace, and security in line with the aspirations of the Huba people.
In a gesture of appreciation, Töl Huba Nyako conferred the title of Midala of Huba Chiefdom on Governor Fintiri in recognition of his contributions.
The ceremony was graced by notable figures, including the Lamido of Adamawa, Dr. Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Mustapha, represented by the Wali Adamawa, Alhaji Abdulkadir Aminu Mbamba. He commended Governor Fintiri and his administration for their transformative projects and expressed confidence in the new Töl Huba’s ability to meet the expectations of his people.
Other dignitaries in attendance included elder statesman General Haldu Hananiya (retd.), Hong Local Government Chairman Inuwa Usman Wa’ganda, and Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Bathiya Wesley. Representatives from Yobe, Borno, Gombe, and Bauchi States also lauded Governor Fintiri’s commitment to justice and equity, describing the occasion as a victory for the Huba Nation.
The event featured an official oath-taking ceremony, presided over by the Chief Judge of Adamawa State, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman.
