From Muawuya Bala Idris, Katsina
The Katsina State Agency for Mass Education has dismissed a media report claiming that the state plans to commence literacy classes for repentant bandits.
The agency said there is no such arrangement and no directive from the government on the issue.
Executive Director of the agency, Bilkisu Mohammed Kakai, stated that the agency can only open such literacy classes if the need arises and at the appropriate time.
Kakai reaffirmed the commitment of the government to eradicate illiteracy through the opening of literacy classes in all parts of the state.
She said Governor Dikko Umar Radda has provided financial and moral assistance for the agency to carry out its mandate.
According to her, the agency recently opened 68 adult education classes in collaboration with traditional rulers and is working to open more literacy classes this year.
She called on members of the National Assembly to work with the agency to open additional adult education classes in their respective areas, urging them to use part of their constituency allowance to finance such projects.
