From Muawuya Bala Idris, Katsina
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 Katsina State election, Senator Yakubu Lado Danmarke, has declared that the party remains strong, united, and formidable, despite recent defections to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking during the party’s expanded caucus meeting held at the PDP headquarters in Katsina on Saturday, Danmarke dismissed the formation of ADC as inconsequential to the PDP’s strength at both the state and national levels.
“The formation of ADC is not a threat to the PDP,” he said. “It is a coalition of frustrated politicians using all means to grab power and enrich themselves.”
He added that the defection of some PDP members in the state was, in fact, a blessing that would strengthen party unity.
“We are happy those working against the progress of the party are no longer with us. We trusted them, but they betrayed us,” he said.
Danmarke urged Nigerians to remain hopeful, insisting that the PDP is the only political party capable of salvaging the country from what he described as the “bad leadership” of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Earlier in his remarks, the PDP Chairman in Katsina State, Nura Amadi Kurfi, praised the large turnout at the meeting, saying it reflects the party’s growing strength across the state.
“This meeting is an opportunity to address key issues and reposition our party for victory in future elections,” Kurfi added.
Our correspondent reports that the meeting was attended by hundreds of party loyalists from all 361 wards across the state.
