The Cross River State Police Command has arrested two men over the alleged murder of their 46-year-old stepbrother, Bassey Eno Ibiang, in Yakurr Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, ASP Sunday Eitokpha Akata, disclosed this, saying the incident was reported to the police on October 25, 2026.
According to Akata, the suspects, Omini Eno Ibiang, 28, and Emmanuel Eno Ibiang, 26, allegedly attacked the deceased following an allegation that he stole a bag belonging to their elder sister.
He said the complainants alleged that the deceased was tied by his hands and legs before he sustained a deep machete wound to the head.
The victim was subsequently rushed to Ugep General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead, while his body was deposited in the hospital mortuary.
Akata said the police arrested the two suspects following the report and took them into custody for investigation.
He added that police operatives visited the scene and commenced preliminary investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and the respective roles of those involved.
The Commissioner of Police, Geoffrey Ajo, warned members of the public against resorting to violence over allegations of theft or other disputes.
Ajo urged residents to report suspected offences to the police and allow the law to take its course rather than take matters into their own hands.
The command said the suspects remained under investigation and assured the public that the case would be thoroughly investigated and handled in accordance with due process.
The suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
