The Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kano State, Alhaji Ali Shettima, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing his passing as a profound national loss.
In a statement issued on Monday, Shettima said he joined millions of Nigerians and sympathizers around the world in mourning the late President, whom he described as “a towering statesman, a disciplined leader, and a patriot.”
“President Buhari’s legacy will remain deeply etched in the annals of our nation’s history,” he noted. “From his military service to his time as Head of State, and later as a democratically elected President, he demonstrated unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s unity, sovereignty, and fight against corruption.”
Although they belonged to different political parties, Shettima acknowledged Buhari’s impact on the country, saying he respected his humility in leadership and dedication to national stability.
“His death is not only a loss to his family and political allies, but also to a generation of Nigerians who saw in him a symbol of integrity and resilience,” the statement added.
While extending condolences on behalf of the Kano SDP chapter, Shettima prayed for Buhari’s soul, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
The former President died in London on Sunday evening after a prolonged illness.
