The management of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Kogi State, has appealed to the public and media to exercise restraint and avoid speculation over the death of one of its lecturers, Mr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle.
In a statement issued on Friday and obtained by Vital News, the university noted that the circumstances surrounding the death, which occurred in a hotel, are currently under investigation by relevant authorities.
The statement, signed by the university’s Registrar, Barr. Yahaya Segun Alilu, emphasized the importance of waiting for verified facts before making public commentary.
“The sudden demise of Mr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, in the company of Miss Glory Ojochegbe Samuel (24GE1034), has understandably generated public concern. However, we urge the public and media to refrain from speculations or drawing premature conclusions,” the statement read.
Mr. Ibikunle was a lecturer in the Department of Social Science Education until his untimely death.
The university also addressed circulating reports attempting to link other students to the incident. It specifically dissociated Miss Bello Yahaya Lubabat of the Department of Educational Administration and Planning from the matter, describing such associations as unfounded and potentially damaging.
“Prince Abubakar Audu University remains committed to truth, fairness, and justice, and we respectfully appeal for restraint and responsible reportage as investigations continue,” the statement added.
The university concluded by expressing deep sorrow over the passing of Mr. Ibikunle and extended condolences to his family, colleagues, and students.
