The Kano State Government has reiterated its commitment to transforming the education sector through the integration of Artificial Intelligence and other innovative technologies.
The development was contained in a statement issued and signed by Yusuf Abubakar Ibrahim, information officer,
office of the Deputy Governor, Kano State.
According to the statement, the state Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Gwarzo, who doubles as the Commissioner for Higher Education, disclosed this on Monday during the 12th Annual Conference of the College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), North-West Zone.
Held at the Abdulhamid Hassan Auditorium of the Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies (KASCEPS), the conference had as its theme, “Integration of Artificial Intelligence in Education for Entrepreneurship and Skills Development in Nigeria.”
Declaring the event open, Gwarzo highlighted the importance of AI in shaping education and building entrepreneurial and technical skills among young people.
He said the state government is taking steps to digitalise its education system and ensure it aligns with the demands of the 21st-century knowledge economy.
“The administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is committed to harnessing the transformative power of Artificial Intelligence not only to enhance teaching and learning but also to create new avenues for skills acquisition and employment,” the deputy governor said.
Also speaking at the event, the Provost of KASCEPS, Associate Professor Sunusi Yakubu Ahmad, commended the state government for prioritising education and praised COEASU for sustaining academic engagement and professional development among lecturers.
A lead paper was presented by Prof. Abdallah Uba Adamu of the Department of Information and Media Studies, Bayero University, Kano, titled “From Chalkboard to Chatbots: The Role of AI in Shaping Education.”
The conference featured an award presentation by COEASU to several dignitaries, including the deputy governor, in recognition of their contributions to educational development.
