The Sokoto State Police Command has announced the arrest of 25-year-old Sufiyanu Aliyu from Gwanyal Village, Tangaza Local Government Area, for allegedly killing his 15-year-old wife, Suwaiba Abubakar Bawa.
The incident occurred on October 27, 2025, following a domestic dispute that escalated into a tragic event.
According to a statement issued by DSP Ahmad Rufai, Public Relations Officer of the Sokoto Police Command, the police received a report about the violent altercation at approximately 8:00 pm.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Aliyu allegedly stabbed his wife to death with a knife during the dispute.
The police swiftly responded to the scene, processed it for forensic analysis, and apprehended the suspect.
A knife believed to be the weapon used in the crime was recovered as evidence.
The victim’s body was taken to a hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed her death.
The Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, commended the officers involved for their prompt response and reassured the public of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring justice is served.
The suspect has confessed to the crime and has been charged to court for prosecution.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Sokoto for further investigation.
