The Inspector-General of Police, Ralwan Olatunji Disu, has expressed sympathy to the victims, as well as the people and government of Plateau State.
He described the incident as very tragic, noting that efforts are ongoing to get to the root of the matter.
The IGP assured that suspects linked to the recent killings in Jos would soon be brought to justice, as security operations intensify across Plateau State.
He made this known during a courtesy visit to the Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, on Thursday at the Government House in Jos.
“We cannot say we have apprehended all the suspects yet. However, as I speak, we have some suspects in custody, and we are confident that very soon we will get to the bottom of the matter,” he said.
In his response, Governor Mutfwang called for a strengthened security architecture, including increased personnel and the deployment of modern technology to tackle insecurity in the state.
“I do not see state policing as dismantling the existing police structure; rather, I see it as restructuring it to achieve greater efficiency,” he said.
The governor further emphasised the need for more boots on the ground, enhanced intelligence gathering through the use of night drones, and improved capacity of the Criminal Investigation Departments (CIDs) for effective prosecution.
He also appealed for the establishment of additional police formations across the state to improve response time and coverage.
