The health sector is seen as the most important one as it involves saving the lives of human beings.
As such, poor or unqualified personnel should not be assigned or employed to take charge of its affairs.
Human beings, wherever they happen to be residing, whether in the rural or urban areas, are supposed to enjoy decent or qualitative health services second to none in the community, because of the belief that a healthy community is a wealthy one.
Based on this premise, therefore and as Kano State Government showed readiness to boost its health sector by doing the needful to support the above objective, it must however satisfy certain criteria or conditions in terms of the personnel it intends to employ in order to carry out all the services in the sector.
The Triumph learnt that the state government is willing to employ a sizeable number of health personnel to man its health facilities across the 44 local government areas of the state.
In the employment of such personnel, the government should bear in mind that the exercise should not be politicized as the personnel require experience and training in recognized health institution(s) for them to serve with professionalism and give the required contribution needed for the development of the society.
Doing things otherwise or contrary will harm the system or cripple it and will just make it unable to achieve its desired goals.
In essence, it is going to bring the effort to futility.
The agency (ies) responsible for the recruitment of the health personnel across the local government areas in the state should pay great attention to the employment of the right personnel to take charge of the responsibility (ies) of providing the needed care services to the people at the centers professionally.
In the exercise, recruitment guidelines or policies should be strictly obeyed to ensure that the qualitative Human Resource for Health initiative could be put in all places of health services in the state.
That is why, with the above positions, the Kano State-Led Accountability Mechanism (KanSLAM) held a media parley on Thursday at the Press Center in the state to advocate for the above and to team up with relevant bodies or stakeholders to change the narrative.
KanSLAM suggested that there should be adequate budgetary allocation for the reproductive health system and family planning opportunities, as well as adequate financing to aid the system.
Hajiya Maimuna Muhammad Yakubu, the state Co-Chair of the organization, in her welcome address, expressed delight at hosting the event, as its participants would help to discuss the issue at length and consider possible ways to solve it.
She said her organization was poised to ensure that funds were allocated in the budget, releases were made, and utilization was achieved accordingly.
She expressed delight that the presence of media practitioners would help a lot in creating awareness to the general public and authorities concerned on the issue, describing the event as a combination of media, the Civil Society Organizations, academia and health professionals to pursue its objectives with vigour.
Hajiya Yakubu, while talking about KanSlam, said it had various committees and visited various facilities across the state with a view to ensuring provision of qualitative services to the teeming populace.
She said they also ensure that care providers were doing what was expected of them, adding that they had a way of reporting their findings to the appropriate authority or government for better health services delivery in the state.
In a goodwill message at the event, the State Team Lead of Pathfinder, Malam Umar Ibrahim Gombe, described KanSlam as a key partner in progress, while Malam Sahnunu Madaki of FCDO-Lafiya, said the organization helps the state in giving contributions towards crashing down maternal mortality in the state.
A presentation on ‘Kano State MNCH Reproductive Health and Family Planning Financing Analysis (2024 – April 2026)’ by Malam Sulaiman Isma’il and supported by Malam Safiyabu Bichi, was made at the event.
