Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State has said that the history of politics in Nigeria and Katsina State cannot be complete without mentioning the late Muhammad Kanti Bello, even as he praised political associates and family members for honouring his enduring legacy.
Radda spoke while receiving leaders and members of the late statesman’s political family at the Government House in Katsina.
He commended the group for their unwavering support during the 2023 gubernatorial election, noting that their loyalty reflects the ideals and political philosophy of the late elder statesman.
The governor praised the legacy of Engr. Kanti Bello, describing it as one rooted in exemplary leadership, service, and principled politics.
He urged members of the political family to sustain these values, emphasizing that leadership should be driven by integrity and accountability to the people.
He also cautioned politicians against viewing public office as an avenue for personal gain, stressing that true leadership begins with respect for the will and trust of the electorate.
Radda further appreciated the group’s continued efforts in mobilizing grassroots support and fostering unity for the All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that his longstanding relationship with the late Kanti Bello remains a model for political cooperation and mutual respect.
In a related development, the political family of the late Kanti Bello held a remembrance gathering at his residence in Katsina, nearly eight years after his passing.
The event drew family members, political associates, supporters, and members of the public, and was led by his political heir, Mustapha Mahmud Kanti.
Speaking at the gathering, the son of the late Bello, Mustapha, expressed gratitude for the large turnout, describing it as a testament to the enduring respect and influence his late father commands within Katsina’s political landscape.
He reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the family’s political values and structure, while acknowledging lapses in engagement with supporters in recent times.
“Insha Allah, we will remain steadfast in protecting the dignity of our family and in upholding the trust that our father built with the people,” he said.
Delivering a keynote goodwill message at the event, the Member representing Ingawa Constituency in the Katsina State House of Assembly, Abubakar Suleiman Tunas, described the late Kanti Bello as a political institution whose legacy continues to guide and inspire emerging leaders across the state.
Hon. Tunas noted that the late statesman’s commitment to unity, justice, and grassroots development remains a benchmark for responsible leadership, adding that those privileged to belong to his political family must see themselves as custodians of a noble tradition.
He pledged to sustain the ideals of honesty, service, and people-oriented leadership exemplified by Kanti Bello, while urging members and supporters to remain united and focused on advancing the collective vision he established.
Earlier, a prominent member of the political family, Alhaji Aminu Ashiru Kofar Sauri, also spoke, offering a detailed historical perspective on the late statesman’s political journey.
He highlighted Kanti Bello’s far-reaching contributions to both Katsina State and Nigeria, emphasizing his role in shaping political thought, mentoring leaders, and building a formidable grassroots structure that continues to endure.
Other stakeholders who spoke at the event included the APC National Legal Adviser, Murtala Aliyu Kankia, and the Chairman of Ingawa Local Government Area, Abubakar Idris, among others.
The gathering attracted a large crowd from across Katsina State and beyond, including youths, men, and women, underscoring the continued relevance and far-reaching influence of the late Senator Muhammad Kanti Bello’s political legacy.
