The Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Muhammad Sama’ila-Mera, has participated in the Nigeria Peace Summit held at the House of Lords, Westminster, in England.
The summit, which took place from April 26 to April 29, 2026, brought together prominent Nigerian Muslim and Christian leaders, alongside key international stakeholders, to deliberate on peace and security issues affecting Nigeria.
A statement issued by the Secretary of the Kebbi State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Shehu Kuwa, and made available to journalists in Birnin Kebbi, noted that the summit was convened by the Global Peace Forum.
The high-level event was attended by members of the House of Lords and the House of Commons, the immediate past Archbishop of Canterbury, Shaykh Abdallah bin Bayyah, the Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy and Human Rights, as well as the UK Minister of State for International Development and Africa.
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, also participated virtually.
Discussions at the summit centred on Nigeria’s security challenges, including allegations of genocide against Christians, as well as the role of religious and community leaders in supporting government efforts to combat violent crimes and terrorism.
The Emir expressed appreciation to the Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, for the opportunity to attend the summit and contribute to discussions on peace, security, and Nigeria’s international image.
He described the gathering as a valuable platform to represent Kebbi State and engage with influential global figures on issues of national importance.
