The Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State has announced the successful immunisation of 69,820 children during the April round of the polio vaccination campaign conducted across its 10 wards.
The council said more than 75,850 doses of the vaccine were administered during the exercise.
This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Information Officer of Tarauni Local Government Area, Adamu Ilyasu Hotoro.
According to the statement, the Primary Healthcare Coordinator in the area, Alhaji Muktar Datti Gwarzo, disclosed the figures while briefing the council’s Information Officer on the outcome of the exercise.
Gwarzo attributed the success of the campaign to the support and cooperation of health workers, stakeholders, parents and traditional leaders who participated in the exercise.
He said their collective efforts helped ensure that eligible children across the area received the vaccine.
“The success recorded was made possible through the collaboration of health workers, stakeholders, parents and traditional leaders who supported efforts to ensure that eligible children received the vaccine,” he said.
Gwarzo also appealed to parents to continue supporting immunisation campaigns in their communities to protect children from contracting preventable diseases.
He said, “Parents should continue cooperating with health workers whenever polio immunisation exercises are conducted in their communities in order to protect their children.”
The Chairman of Tarauni Local Government Area, Ahmed Ibrahim Muhammad Sekure, and the Director of Administration and General Services, Tijjani Madaki Gulya, commended health workers for their dedication and professionalism during the exercise.
They noted that the commitment of the workers contributed significantly to achieving the set targets of the immunisation campaign.
