The Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, on Thursday appealed to residents across the state’s 23 local government areas for forgiveness over any shortcomings or mistakes made by his administration.
Speaking after spending two years, 11 months, and 21 days in office, Aliyu said neither he nor his deputy, Idris Muhammad Gobir, intentionally governed in a way that harmed or offended anyone.
“Therefore, I ask anyone we may have wronged to please forgive us for the sake of Allah,” the governor said.
Aliyu made the appeal during his affirmation as the APC governorship candidate for a second term in Sokoto State, where party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters unanimously endorsed him for another term.
The affirmation exercise attracted a large turnout of delegates, party faithful, youths, women’s groups, and political stakeholders from across the state.
The event was described as a clear demonstration of confidence in the governor’s leadership and performance.
Speaking before the exercise began, the leader of the APC National Headquarters Affirmation Committee, Alhaji Muktari Birninwa, said the committee was in Sokoto on behalf of the party’s national leadership to conduct a peaceful, transparent, and credible process in line with the APC constitution and democratic principles.
Birninwa commended party members and stakeholders for their unity, loyalty, and continued support for the administration.
He said the governor’s achievements had further strengthened the APC’s popularity across the state.
He praised the developmental strides recorded under the present administration, describing the governor’s performance as impressive and people-oriented.
According to him, Aliyu’s agenda has positively impacted security, education, healthcare, infrastructure, water supply, agriculture, and youth empowerment.
He added that the visible transformation across Sokoto State demonstrated the governor’s commitment to delivering democratic dividends and improving the welfare of citizens.
Birninwa said the administration’s projects and achievements were sufficient reasons for the people of Sokoto to support and re-elect Aliyu for a second term.
Also speaking, the APC Chairman in Sokoto State, Alhaji Haruna S. Adiya, said the affirmation reflected the confidence party members and residents have in the governor.
He noted that Aliyu had demonstrated commitment and dedication through impactful projects and programmes aimed at improving the living conditions of the people.
Adiya said the APC remained united and determined to sustain the progress recorded so far, urging members to remain steadfast and committed to the party’s ideals.
The leader of the APC in Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, said he attended the event to express gratitude to Almighty Allah and the people of Sokoto for their continued support, prayers, and loyalty to the APC and its leadership.
Wamakko thanked party members, traditional leaders, women, youths, and stakeholders for their unwavering support for Aliyu’s administration and for strengthening party unity.
He said the massive turnout reflected the public’s confidence in the governor’s leadership and agenda.
He urged residents to continue supporting the administration to enable it deliver more democratic dividends, assuring them that the APC remained committed to peace, development, and good governance in the state.
Wamakko also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership in promoting national unity, development, and progress.
In his remarks, Governor Aliyu expressed appreciation to party leaders, stakeholders, and the people of Sokoto for their support and confidence.
He said the affirmation served as a renewed mandate and motivation to deliver more people-oriented projects across all sectors.
He assured that his administration would continue to strengthen security, improve education and healthcare services, expand infrastructure, and empower youths and women for sustainable development.
Aliyu commended the unity within the APC in Sokoto State, describing it as a major factor behind the successes recorded so far.
He pledged to continue working closely with party leaders, traditional institutions, and stakeholders to ensure the state’s progress and prosperity.
He expressed deep appreciation to President Tinubu, describing his leadership as visionary, courageous, and reform-driven.
Aliyu said the President’s policies had provided a stronger framework for development and supported governance at the subnational level.
The governor added that the enabling environment created by the Federal Government had strengthened his administration’s capacity to deliver impactful projects.
He prayed for Allah’s continued guidance and success for the President.
Aliyu also expressed gratitude to Senator Wamakko for his leadership, guidance, and fatherly role in strengthening the APC in Sokoto State.
He acknowledged Wamakko’s support and contributions to the party’s stability and success, and prayed for Allah’s blessings upon him.
The governor called on the people of Sokoto to sustain their support and prayers, promising that his administration would not relent in justifying the confidence reposed in it.
The event ended with celebrations and renewed pledges of loyalty from party supporters, who reaffirmed their commitment to the APC and their support for Governor Ahmed Aliyu and Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko ahead of the forthcoming elections.
