From Joseph Asegba, Yola
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State has endorsed Chief Maurice Vunoboki as its governorship candidate for the 2027 general election.
The decision was reached unanimously during a party congress held at Ribadu Square in Yola, with delegates from all the 21 local government areas of the state in attendance.
The endorsement followed consultations among party officials and stakeholders from the grassroots level.
Chairman of the electoral committee, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, presided over the adoption after a motion for Vunoboki’s endorsement was moved and seconded.
He subsequently declared Vunoboki the official PDP flag bearer for the 2027 governorship election.
The exercise was peaceful and monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) alongside senior party stakeholders to ensure compliance with electoral guidelines and due process.
Speaking at the event, the Acting State Chairman of the PDP, Mr. Belmond Dogo, said all acting local government chairmen and party stakeholders had earlier agreed on Vunoboki as the sole candidate.
He explained that the congress was convened to formally ratify and announce the decision.
Dogo noted that the endorsement was the outcome of a series of meetings held across the state to build consensus ahead of the 2027 elections, describing the process as peaceful and orderly.
Vunoboki, who is said to belong to the Abdulrahman Mohammad PDP bloc, received the backing of party structures across the state. Delegates at the congress described the endorsement as a reflection of unity within the party.
Party officials said the early adoption would enable the PDP to commence mobilisation and campaign planning ahead of the governorship poll.
They expressed confidence that the consensus arrangement would strengthen the party’s chances in the election.
INEC officials present at the congress reportedly confirmed that the exercise was conducted in line with the party’s constitution and electoral regulations.
Stakeholders also commended the transparent process, saying it would help reduce internal disputes within the party.
With Vunoboki now officially adopted as the party’s candidate, PDP leaders said efforts would be intensified to mobilise support across all the 21 local government areas of Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
