The Northern Nigerian Election Monitoring Volunteers (NIMOV), Zamfara Chapter, has commended political leaders for demonstrating political maturity during the rescheduled State Assembly primary elections for Maradun I and II constituencies held on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
The group noted that the peaceful atmosphere that characterised the exercise marked a significant departure from the tension and political unrest that often accompany party primaries in many parts of the country.
According to NIMOV, the orderly conduct of party supporters and stakeholders in Maradun reflected growing democratic awareness and a collective determination to protect the sanctity of the electoral process.
In a statement issued after monitoring the exercise, the State Coordinator of NIMOV, Dr. Mu’azu Na’allah Moriki, said the maturity displayed by APC supporters throughout the primaries demonstrated their loyalty, commitment, and confidence in the leadership of the party, particularly the Minister of State for Defence, Mohammed Bello Matawalle, and the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal.
The group further observed that despite alleged attempts by some political actors to disrupt the process through acts capable of causing chaos, hooliganism, and violence, residents and party faithful in Maradun remained calm and politically responsible throughout the exercise.
According to the election monitoring body, people across all wards in the local government area turned out massively to demonstrate solidarity and support for their preferred State House of Assembly candidates in a peaceful and orderly manner, without rancour or violence.
NIMOV added that the successful conduct of the primaries has further strengthened public confidence in democratic participation in Zamfara State and could serve as a model for future political exercises across the state and beyond.
The group congratulated the winners and called on them to be magnanimous in victory and reconcile with those they defeated in order to foster unity and understanding.
