The Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Plateau State has successfully conducted its primary elections through affirmation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking shortly after the exercise held on Thursday at Dadi Kowa Youth Centre in Jos, the Chairman of the party and affirmed flag bearer for Plateau North Senatorial Zone, Hon. Bitrus Boyi Ngah, said the responsibility of directly tackling insecurity lies with the executive arm of government, but stressed that legislators also have a vital role to play in strengthening the nation’s security framework.
According to him, lawmakers must ensure the enactment of laws that will enhance Nigeria’s security architecture and guarantee adequate funding for security agencies.
“We will lobby for adequate funding, improve intelligence gathering, encourage inter-community and regional collaboration, and ensure that the right personnel are deployed to address the security challenges facing Plateau North,” he said.
Ngah expressed concern over the persistent attacks and insecurity affecting communities across the state, noting that the current situation has taken dangerous dimensions that should not be allowed to continue.
“We are deeply saddened by the persistent attacks and insecurity in our communities. By the grace of God, if elected, I will work with my colleagues across the country to enact laws that will bring lasting peace, not only to my constituency but to Nigeria as a whole,” he stated.
He further accused the present administration of not doing enough to tackle insecurity, insisting that the country has the capacity to end the menace if human lives and security matters are not politicised.
“As vibrant young leaders, we will not fold our arms and watch this continue. We will do everything within our powers to ensure that insecurity is tackled decisively when elected,” he added.
Ngah also described the growing support for the ADP as a reflection of the people’s desire for change, stressing that political parties are merely platforms for leadership while the people remain the ultimate deciding factor.
“ADP has existed since 2017 and has participated in every election. We have won some and lost some. At one point, we even produced a senator before political circumstances changed things. Today, we are more prepared for 2027 than ever before,” he said.
He maintained that elections are not solely about money, but about conviction and the ability to connect with the people.
“The people have heard our message, and by God’s grace, we will win the elections,” he declared.
Also speaking, the Women Leader of the party, Mrs. Ifeoma Pearl, congratulated all the candidates who emerged during the affirmation exercise and urged them to remain steadfast and committed to their various wards ahead of the campaigns.
“What we have done here today, I believe God Almighty has already established in heaven, and at the end of this race, victory shall be ours,” she said.
One of the aspirants for the Plateau State House of Assembly, Jos East Constituency, Dr. Azi Musa Goje, also expressed appreciation to party members for their support throughout the process.
“It was not easy when we started, but today we are happy to have emerged as candidates of the party. By the grace of God, come 2027, we shall emerge victorious,” he said.
Goje urged party members to remain resolute and focused, adding that Nigerians are yearning for change.
“Nigerians are tired of what the ruling party, particularly the APC, is doing. We need change, and that change is going to come through the ADP,” he stated.
