The Federal College of Agricultural Produce Technology (FCAPT), Hotoro, Kano State, has joined other agricultural institutions and stakeholders around the world to celebrate World Food Day 2026, reaffirming its commitment to promoting agricultural technology, food preservation and food security.
Speaking on behalf of the Provost, Dr Salisu, who was away in Abuja on official assignment, the Deputy Provost, Dr Attahiru Tanko Muhammad, said the college was delighted to participate in the annual celebration observed globally on October.
He explained that the college’s mandate was to train and educate farmers and members of the public on agricultural technologies to improve agricultural production and the preservation of farm produce.
According to him, FCAPT provides training for farmers of different categories, depending on their needs, to equip them with practical skills and modern techniques for improving their agricultural activities.
Dr Muhammad disclosed that the college had recently trained tomato and pepper farmers on how to preserve their produce, an initiative aimed at reducing post-harvest losses and helping farmers retain the value of their harvests.
He also highlighted the institution’s various programmes in agricultural technology, noting that the college was committed to producing skilled professionals who could contribute to agricultural development in Nigeria and beyond.
The Deputy Provost further revealed that the institution had trained individuals nominated by members of the National Assembly, who subsequently received grants to support their agricultural activities.
He said the college remained committed to expanding access to agricultural knowledge and practical skills through its different training programmes.
Dr Muhammad, speaking on behalf of the Provost, reaffirmed FCAPT’s commitment to working with agricultural stakeholders to promote food production, preservation and sustainable agricultural development.
He added that the annual World Food Day celebration provided an opportunity for institutions, governments, farmers and other stakeholders to renew their commitment to addressing food-related challenges and strengthening food security.
