The crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Katsina State has deepened following the emergence of two governorship candidates from rival factions within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It was gathered that the candidates emerged through separate consensus arrangements conducted by the two factions currently laying claim to the leadership of the party in the state.
According to reports, a faction led by Musa Usman Wamba produced Salisu Uli as its governorship candidate, while another faction under the leadership of Mohammed Rimi endorsed former Senator Ahmed Babba Kaita as its candidate.
Sources within the party revealed that both factions are insisting on the legitimacy of their respective candidates, further worsening the internal crisis and creating uncertainty over the party’s direction ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking with The Triumph, a supporter of Salisu Uli’s candidature, Malam Sani Usman, called on Senator Ahmed Babba Kaita to step down in the interest of the party and its supporters.
Usman described the Mohammed Rimi-led faction as illegal, alleging that its decision to nominate a candidate violated the constitution of the party.
However, reacting to the claim, Haruna Kankia, a supporter of Senator Babba Kaita, accused the Wamba faction of creating unnecessary tension within the ADC.
Kankia further alleged that the Wamba faction was being sponsored by the ruling APC in the state to undermine the ADC’s chances of winning the 2027 governorship election.
As of the time of filing this report, party officials at the state level had yet to issue an official statement on the development, while supporters of both camps continued to defend the legitimacy of their candidates.
